It is important to see your dentist as soon as possible after an accident. ACC covers most accidents, and you may be entitled to receive assistance from ACC to pay towards your dental care. You will need to fill out a claim form with your dentist and we will send this claim on your behalf.
If you have been in an accident which has damaged your teeth or surround soft tissues you may be entitle to assistance from ACC. Generally ACC covers most accidents where the individual took all necessary precautions beforehand. Just like brushing your teeth prevents cavities, a mouthguard or a seatbelt will prevent serious injury while playing sports or driving a vehicle. However, ACC does not cover damage to teeth due to normal use and wear and tear, and will assess the health and condition of your teeth before the accident as well.
Scheduling regular check-ups with your dentist will provide recent notes or X-rays from before an accident that can support a legitimate claim. All our dentists are ACC providers and are able to treat in emergency situations. Further treatment requiring a specialist or ongoing appointments will require approval from ACC as necessary.
